Online poker players ”displaying loyalty”
While the recession may have had some impact upon poker playing rates in the UK, a loyal army of enthusiasts have continued to fly the flag for the game.
This is the claim of Matt King, senior leisure analyst at Mintel, which has recently conducted a study into poker revenues and participation.
He said the poker industry is being supported by a loyal base of customers, more than half of whom play more than once a week.
According to Mr King, around a third of online players compete on the internet once a week or more, and those who do are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
He commented: "Around one third of online players play on more than one table, indicating a growing degree of experience among players.
"A real strength of the online poker world is the diversity of sites available, which allows players motivated by various forces to find a site or room that appeals to them."
With winter fast approaching, expect the tables over at InterPoker.com to be full to the brim.
