Dundalk casino ”part of leisure development plans”
Hopes are high for a proposed casino development on the border between Northern Ireland and Eire.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, plans have been lodged for a €430m (£390m) tourism and gambling complex in the frontier town of Dundalk.
As well as a casino, the site would include an all-weather ski slope, a concert area, cinema, shops, restaurants and sports facilities.
Developers hope the Irish government will adopt a relaxed attitude to gambling laws, helping to transform Dundalk into a gamblers” paradise.
Councillor Jim Ryan said the ambitious leisure project would be "very exciting for the town".
"It could help transform Dundalk’s reputation and would help give us something - especially in this current economic climate," he added.
However, Cllr Ryan said there was likely to be a degree of opposition to the casino plan – meaning punters should hold off reaching for their hats and coats for the time being at least.
