Council computers ”used for online gambling”

Council workers in Sweden clearly have better things to do than their work duties, a new study has suggested.

Research conducted by officials in the city of Jonkoping indicates that up to 80 per cent of public sector internet capacity is spent visiting "inappropriate websites", reports the Local.

Perhaps not surprisingly, online gambling sites sit proudly on the ”naughty list”, with workers seemingly preferring to play poker or the slots than push paper all day.

Websites featuring adult content, social media and games also proved popular with computer users, the study found.

Speaking to Sveriges Radio, city director Martin Andreae said: "I would have never thought the problem would be this widespread. If we had realised how big the problem was, we would have done something to address it sooner."

So sour grapes from the council leader – but they”ve probably got a right to expect employees not to abuse the privilege of web access in the office.

Placing bets when you”re meant to be working is not the most sensible idea in the world, but then, if nobody is watching…
