A UK bingo hall has reopened this week, bucking the recent trend of closures across the country.
The Mecca Oldbury, which has enjoyed a £1.6 million refurbishment over the past few months, is finally ready to welcome back its loyal Black Country member base.
A total of 800 people were present for the grand reopening, reports the Express and Star, with bingo enthusiasts queuing round the block.
Keen to capitalise on this enthusiasm, the hall has added a twist to its game play offering, introducing glow-in-the-dark and rock-and-roll bingo among other promotions.
Innovation is welcome in the industry providing it pulls the punters through the doors, but for many players, allowing them to come out, play a few games and socialise with familiar faces is surely the major attraction.
After its well-documented problems in 2009 with increased tax liability, everyone will now have their fingers crossed for a brighter year for British bingo.

British starlet Jake Cody has joined the poker big-league by triumphing at the 2010 European Poker Tour Deauville event.
At just 21 years of age, the psychology graduate scooped a first place prize of more than £700,000 – more than enough to pay off his student loan.
Cody saw off an experienced and skilled field to beat Romanian hopeful Teodor Caraba in a two-hour heads-up duel.
Overturning a chip deficit heading into the final, the Rochdale resident bluffed his way into the lead and eventually won with a pair of Kings in hand, to his opponent’’s Ace King.
Cody said he had been "overwhelmed" by his success at the tournament – his first on the tour - which is no surprise given his tender age and relative lack of experience.
Here’’s hoping he continues his good form during the season and is firing on all cylinder come the European Poker Tour Grand Final in April.

Online gambling is increasingly big business these days, so it is no wonder there are ever-more providers springing up in an attempt to capture a market share.
For this reason, it is encouraging that the government is introducing a system of licensing for all offshore operators wishing to target the British market.
Earlier this month, Gerry Sutcliffe, the current minister for sport and tourism, said the government would consult on changing the existing system of remote gambling regulation in Britain.
He commented: "Online gambling has changed significantly in recent years with many European countries taking new approaches to regulation.
"It would be wrong of us to stand still where things are changing around us - especially where the protection of British consumers may be at stake."
The Gambling Commission will be required to test firm’’s software, age verification and self-exclusion provisions, technical standards and social responsibility awareness before granting licences.
Online gambling provides much joy for the growing number of enthusiasts in the UK - let’’s hope it stays that way.
